Rules and rights for international employees

The general rights and obligations are the same for foreign employees as for all other employees. This means that your foreign employees must be treated on an equal footing with your Danish employees.

Many questions about wages and employment conditions can arise when hiring a foreign employee. The short answer to all of them is that foreign employees have the same rights and obligations as Danish employees and must be treated equally.

For example, the wages and contract terms for your foreign employees should be the same as those you would normally offer to a Danish employee in the same position. You can read more about this in our brochure regarding rules and rights for foreign employees. We recommend that you distribute the brochure to your foreign employees so that they are informed about their rights and obligations.

We have also published a brochure that provides more general information about the Danish labor market. It is also relevant for you to share this with a prospective foreign employee.

Rules and rights for posted employees

Special rules applIy, if you hire posted employees - meaning employees who are sent by their European employer to work in Denmark.

The Danish Working Environment Authority is the governing body in this area, and they manage a website dedicated to the topic called Workplace Denmark. Here, you can read more about the rights covering safety, health, and working conditions for posted workers in Denmark.

You can advantageously refer your posted employees to the website, which offers important information in several different European languages.
