Life in Denmark - The Land of Trust
Once we were brutal Vikings. Now we are one of the world's most peaceful societies
Trust, community, and the Danish welfare state are some of the most important aspects of why Denmark comes out on top of global surveys as the happiest people in the world. The values of trust and community are deeply embedded in Danish culture and society. The high level of social trust results in a willingness to pay one of the world's highest tax rates to finance an extensive welfare program with free schooling, free healthcare, state pension and much more. The idea is that everyone must contribute to the community, by paying taxes, and in return, the community will help care for all.
